Friday’s Video: How The National Archives Scans Important Documents/Materials Secured Away Underground In A Special Archiving Cavern

There are over 10 billion of our nation’s records archived at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).  As the nation's record keeper, important documents and materials created in the course of business conducted by the United States Federal government needing to be kept for legal or historical reasons become their responsibility.

At the National Personnel Records Center of the National Archives in Valmeyer, Illinois, the NARA staffs and operates an extensive off-site facility to digitize and/or store our nation's records. It is carved out of a limestone cave and resides securely underground.

Today’s Friday’s Video takes you on a tour showing how the nation’s record keeper scans records for the National Archives.
